Legendary EGOT winner Rita Moreno has an interesting story to share about how she landed her role in Fast X, the next chapter in the Fast and Furious Saga. In an interview with ET, the actress revealed that it was her grandson who suggested Vin Diesel to play Moreno in the film, which recently released a new poster featuring Diesel’s character, Dom. Toretto. The conversation between Justin Fisher, Moreno’s grandson and Diesel took place during the West Side Story 2021 party. The young actor laughed as he recalled how he introduced Diesel to His grandmother’s participation in the franchise:
“[Vin and I] caught up and grabbed drinks after the event, and he’s so fond of my grandma,” Fisher mentioned. “I told him, ‘You should work with her. You should have her be your grandma, have her slap you upside the head. Have her have a little tone, because you know her, it’s all tone.'”
Diesel, who recently shared the first photo of Michelle Rodriguez on the set of the movie, played Toretto nine times, starting with Fast and The Furious in 2001. The first movie was about racing cars and -unlawful, stealing and love. The franchise has come a long way, with submarines emerging from the ice and speeding cars in space featured in recent new chapters. The series has seen many stellar guest stars over the years, including Jason Momoa and Brie Larson, who join Moreno in the cast of the upcoming 10-episode series.
Fast X will see Cipher (Charlize Theron) and Dante (Jason Momoa) team up against Team Toretto following the events of Fast 9 in 2021. The upcoming series is off to a rough start in production, when the former director Justin Lin left the project early. In the first week of filming about gender differences in Diesel. Lin was later replaced by Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier. The new director is fully focused on the production of other films, which ran from April to August last year.
Rita Moreno can now be seen in 80 for Brady, a new comedy that hits theaters nationwide tomorrow, February 3.
