Renée Elise Goldsberry and J. Alphonse Nicholson are set to star as a couple facing constant challenges and obstacles in the upcoming romantic dramedy “Albany Road.” The film, written and directed by Christine Swanson, will also feature Lisa Arrindell, Gary Dourdan, Joe Holt, Rachel Nicks, Ben Rappaport, and Lily Cowles. Interestingly, “Albany Road” will take a unique distribution route, being released through AMC Theatres and Malco Theatres instead of traditional distribution companies.
Scheduled for release shortly after October, the film aligns with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and aims to shed light on topics disproportionately affecting Black individuals, such as infertility and breast cancer. “Albany Road” follows the story of a New York executive en route to the most significant meeting of her career, unexpectedly forced to share a rental car with her ex-fiancé’s mother, portrayed by Lynn Whitfield. As the journey progresses, the protagonist uncovers a major secret that the mother has been concealing.
Described as a heartfelt and humorous exploration of life’s complexities, “Albany Road” delves into the nuances of a road trip shared by two vastly different women. Celeste Simmons (Renée Elise Goldsberry), a successful New York executive, and Paula Henderson (Lynn Whitfield), her ex-fiancé’s strong-willed mother, find themselves reluctantly embarking on a journey that leads them to confront love, regret, missed opportunities, and the challenging conversations they’ve avoided. As they traverse both the physical and emotional landscapes of their trip, their relationship’s layers are peeled back, revealing profound truths and paving the way toward healing.
