Marvel Studios’ *Agatha All Along* made headlines last week with its fifth episode, which has been noted as the series’ darkest installment to date. In this episode, Agatha Harkness faced her own trial on the Witches’ Road, leading to several unexpected developments, particularly significant given that it was the shortest episode of the season so far.
A key moment occurred at the end of the episode when it was revealed that the character Teen, played by Joe Locke, was not who he appeared to be. Although he maintained a certain identity, a sigil prevented him from disclosing his true self to the witch community. This identity was unveiled during a confrontation where he used unexpected magical abilities to attack Agatha, Lilia, and Jennifer. The emergence of a magical crown confirmed his identity as Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan, and the son of the Scarlet Witch.
This surprising revelation came earlier in the season than many anticipated, setting an intriguing course for the remainder of *Agatha All Along*. The subsequent sixth episode promised to further expand on these developments.
The episode titled “Agatha All Along” explores the aftermath of a significant revelation from the previous episode, but rather than opening with this moment, it reveals it at the end. Most of the episode is structured as a flashback, focusing on the character now known as Teen and recounting the circumstances that led to the existence of Billy, Wanda’s son.
The narrative explains that Billy, originally named William Kaplan, had a promising future until a fortuitous encounter with a witch, later identified as Lilia Calderu. During this encounter, she read his palm and foresaw a fate where his life force would split, suggesting an impending transformation in his life.
While William and his family were passing by Westview in a car, Wanda’s Hex unexpectedly expanded, causing a car accident. Although William’s parents emerged with minor injuries, it’s heavily implied that William suffered fatal consequences. However, his story takes a turn as Billy Maximoff’s soul becomes intertwined with William, ultimately resurrecting him and manifesting him as one of Wanda’s magical children. Notably, an officer named Alice Wu-Gulliver assists at the scene.
As William awakens, he has no memory of his past lives as either Billy or William. He returns home with his parents, who are understandably concerned about his amnesia. Three years later, we see him transformed into the Teen character familiar to audiences. During a conversation with his boyfriend, Teen expresses his inability to recall his previous existence. He mentions having conducted research on the Hex and found a source from Westview willing to disclose the truth about his past.
Ralph Bohner, portrayed by Evan Peters, played a pivotal role in recounting the events surrounding Westview, including the experiences of Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Agatha Harkness, and the twins, Tommy and Billy Maximoff. This information prompted Billy to seek out Agatha in Westview, aiming to liberate her from the spell cast by Wanda.
The narrative then unfolds from Billy’s perspective, particularly during the interrogation scene with Agnes. In this scene, it becomes clear that Billy was responsible for breaking the spell that Wanda had imposed on Agatha.
In the latest episode, Agatha successfully returns to the surface, where she confronts Teen, revealed to be Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan. Earlier, Billy had turned against Agatha, Lilia Calderu, and Jennifer Kale. He crushed a pebble containing a sigil that Lilia had placed in his jacket, allowing Agatha to finally speak his name, indicating a breaking of the spell.
A key issue arises regarding Billy’s true motivations—his primary goal is to locate his twin brother, Tommy, whose presence he senses but whose location remains unknown to him. Although he insists that he doesn’t require Agatha’s assistance and tries to intimidate her, his magic proves ineffective. This leads them both to embark on the next trial together.
During their interaction, Billy confronts Agatha directly, expressing his distrust while agreeing to complete the trials as a team. Agatha cheekily remarks that “the last one there is a nice person,” to which Billy retorts, “I’m not that nice.”
The narrative suggests that Lilia and Jennifer may have met their demise during Billy’s earlier attack, as they were sent into the dirt along the Witches’ Road. However, it is anticipated that their stories will continue, particularly since Lilia’s trial, themed around “The Wizard of Oz,” is still pending. Recent trailers further indicate that both Lilia and Jennifer will reappear underground following their confrontation with Billy. Looking ahead, it appears that these four characters will converge in the upcoming episode to confront the next trial, especially considering Billy’s prior connection with Lilia, indicating their stories are far from finished.
