Uncovering the Drama: Paul Schrader’s Surprising ‘Joker 2’ Departure.

In an interview with Interview Magazine, screenwriter Paul Schrader expressed his strong dislike for the “Joker” sequel, “Joker: Folie à Deux.” Schrader revealed that he only watched about 10 to 15 minutes of the film before leaving, buying something, and then watching another 10 minutes before deciding to stop.

He specifically mentioned his dislike for the actors Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, stating that he doesn’t like them as actors or as characters. Schrader also made it clear that he has no interest in directing a Marvel film, mentioning his past experience with attempting to direct a prequel to “The Exorcist” as an example of a bad fit.

The “Joker” sequel received criticism from various sources, including director Paul Schrader. The film experienced an unprecedented 81% drop in box office revenue after its debut weekend, marking the first time a movie with a $30 million-plus opening had seen such a significant decline. In contrast, the original “Joker” film made history as the first R-rated movie to surpass the billion-dollar mark at the box office.
