In the latest edition of the Creative Arts Emmys, Michaela Coel clinched the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The character she portrayed, Bev, is a rival assassin at a separate agency, and her co-star Donald Glover’s character, John, was tasked with seducing and killing her. Coel faced tough competition, including Marcia Gay Harden for The Morning Show, Claire Foy for The Crown, and two other guest stars from Mrs. & Mrs. Smith, Sarah Paulson and Parker Posey.
In addition to her recent win, Coel previously secured an Emmy in 2021 for Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her HBO series I May Destroy You. The show also received nominations in various other categories.
Currently, Coel is devoting her efforts to a new project, a forthcoming HBO series entitled The First Day on Earth. In this latest endeavor, she stars as a novelist who lands a job on a film set in Ghana, her parents’ home country. As she seeks to reconnect with her estranged father, her journey helps her discover more about herself and build new relationships, leading to the development of a new personal identity.
