Tom Hiddleston’s dancing skills in The Life of Chuck are truly remarkable.
The 43-year-old British actor, known for his viral dance videos in the past, showcases his moves in his new dramedy, which made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
When asked about the sequence, Hiddleston mentioned, “Is it around seven minutes of actual dancing?” The scene occurs midway through director Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novella, which revolves around Charles Krantz (played by Hiddleston), an apparently ordinary accountant.
According to Hiddleston, in the scene, Chuck Krantz is attending a convention to speak to other accountants when he suddenly hears an infectious drum beat that takes over his body. He then starts moving to the beat and notices a young woman across the way enjoying it as well.
Describing the dance, Hiddleston stated, “It’s completely spontaneous and joyful. And I hope the audience finds it as spontaneous and joyful as we did.”
Annalise Basso, Hiddleston’s co-star in the scene, jokingly mentioned, “Tom’s lead was the easiest and the most fun to follow,” before adding, “I’ve been dancing for most of my life and Tom made me feel like Ginger Rogers. I’m not saying that I am!”
Hiddleston added, “The dance in the film is about the multitudes we all contain within ourselves. So none of us are only one thing in our lives.”
Additionally, The Life of Chuck features Chiwetel Ejiofor and Karen Gillan, who also appeared in Marvel projects alongside Hiddleston, known for his role as Loki. Hiddleston expressed his realization of this connection, saying, “I hadn’t realized the connection until it was pointed it out. I mean, I sort of had, but it hadn’t occurred to me because The Life of Chuck is its own universe in a way.”
He further explained, “The soul of every human being has such an extraordinary depth and range. Don’t judge a book by its cover. We are more than one thing, and the dance arises out of something extremely spontaneous.”
The release date for The Life of Chuck has not been announced yet.
