Sophie Turner, the 28-year-old British actress, recently opened up about the challenges of being a single mother while reflecting on her latest role. In the new ITV drama “Joan,” Turner portrays the notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington. The series delves into the multifaceted life of Hannington in the 1980s, depicting her as a criminal and a mother striving to regain custody of her daughter from social services. Interestingly, during the filming of the series, Turner and her husband, pop star Joe Jonas, publicly announced their decision to split after four years of marriage.

In recent news, it was confirmed that Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have finalized their divorce, ending a period of marital strife. Turner, known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, shared in an interview with the Sunday Times Culture magazine that she feels being a mother has influenced her approach to acting. She discussed the challenges of single motherhood and emphasized the importance of showing children the effort parents put in for them. Turner also highlighted the societal judgment faced by mothers, expressing that there is often shame associated with choices related to work and parenting. Turner and Jonas, who have two daughters, got married in May 2019 and subsequently filed for divorce, with Jonas citing an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. Turner also took legal action to obtain her children’s passports but later reached a temporary custody agreement with Jonas.

The six-part series, “Joan,” was adapted from the memoirs of a notorious British criminal named Hannington, who was known as The Godmother. The series was written by Anna Symon, who consulted the thief during the writing process. In the series, actress Sophie Turner portrays Hannington and has expressed that the role has changed her as a person, giving her strength and ambition. Turner, known for her role as Jean Grey in the X-Men films, shared that a crew member became a close friend and provided support during filming, reflecting the strong bond within the production team. Additionally, Arizona-born actor and musician Nick Jonas, known for being part of the band The Jonas Brothers, also stars in the series. The first episode of “Joan” will premiere on ITV1 on Sunday.
