Ian McKellen, who portrayed Gandalf in ‘The Lord of the Rings’, was rushed to the hospital after a severe fall.

British acting legend Sir Ian McKellen was admitted to the hospital on Monday after he suffered a fall from the stage during a theatrical performance at the Noël Coward Theatre in London. The 85-year-old renowned actor is best known for his iconic portrayal of the powerful wizard Gandalf in “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy. The incident occurred during a fight scene in the play “Player Kings” at the West End theater, where McKellen lost his balance and fell, as reported by the BBC.

During a performance of “Player Kings,” Sir Ian McKellen, portraying the character John Falstaff, fell off the front of the stage while circling a battle scene involving the Prince of Wales and Henry Percy. According to audience member Paul Critchley, the actor seemed to trip as he moved downstage to take a more active part in the scene, picking up momentum and eventually falling directly in front of the audience. As a result, the house lights came on, and staff rushed to his aid. The show was then canceled, and the theater was evacuated. Concerned audience member Sandro Trapani expressed hope for Sir Ian’s well-being, noting that the actor appeared conscious as he sought assistance. The production, showcasing William Shakespeare’s “Henry IV, Parts One and Two,” was marred by this unfortunate incident.
