WPL 2023: Delhi Capitals qualify for finals

Delhi Capitals finished in the WPL 2023 rankings and booked straight into the finals. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will face UP Warriorz in the tournament.

Delhi Capitals defeated UP Warriorz by five wickets in the final of WPL 2023, at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The win helped DC move to No. 1 and book a spot in the Finals. Meanwhile, UPW will face Mumbai Indians in their playoff match, for one place in the final.

Chasing a target of 139 runs, Delhi reached 142/5 in 17.5 overs, thanks to a 23-ball 39 from Meg Lanning. Meanwhile, Shabnim Ismail took two wickets for UPW. UPW went to 138/6 in 20 overs, with Tahlia McGrath smashing an unbeaten 58 off 32 balls. Alice Capsey was in good bowling form for DC and took three wickets, and Radha Yadand added two dismissals.

Meanwhile, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, MI beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in the penultimate league match by four wickets. Chasing a target of 126 runs, MI went to 129/6 from 16.3 overs, with Amelia Kerr holding an unbeaten 31 off 27 balls. Kanika Ahuja took two wickets for RCB. Earlier, RCB posted 125/9 from 20 overs, with Richa Ghosh hitting 29 from 13 balls. Amelia Kerr was in fine form and took three wickets for MI, and Nat Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong took two wickets each. After the win, MI climbed to the top spot but Delhi’s win lifted Harmanpreet Kaur’s team to the second spot. MI will face UPW in their playoff match. Also, RCB and Gujarat Giants did not qualify for the playoffs.

The Delhi Capitals finished with 12 points from eight games (six wins and two losses), and the Mumbai Indians are in second place with 12 points from eight games (six wins and two losses). The two teams were tied at points, but Lanning’s team had a better net rate that made it to the finals. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz has finished with eight points from eight games (four wins and four losses). They will face Mumbai in the competition for one place in the final. The playoff match between MI and UPW will take place at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Meanwhile, the winner of the tournament will face DC in the final on Sunday, at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
