In “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the original cast of “Ghostbusters” – including actors Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts – return to the supernatural streets of New York to face a new ghostly threat along with their old nemesis: the massive proton packs.
According to Murray, wearing the proton packs is no easy task. “Wearing the damn packs, they are really heavy,” he said. “Wearing the pack a long time ago was miserable. Wearing the pack now is like torture.”
The iconic crew from the 1984 classic “Ghostbusters” teams up with newcomers Paul Rudd and Mckenna Grace in a mix of past and present, 40 years after the first release of the movie.
The original “Ghostbusters” film, released in 1984, remains a classic in the world of cinema and popular culture. The movie centers around a group of scientists in New York City who create a business to catch ghosts. It became one of the highest-grossing films of the 1980s and has left an enduring impact on pop culture.
Bill Murray, who played one of the leading roles in the film, recently reflected on the experience of reading the initial script. He recalled receiving a draft that was only 27 pages long and reading it quite early in the morning, around 5:30 a.m. Despite the early hour, Murray said he was immediately drawn in by the script and decided to participate, stating simply, “Okay, I’m in.”
The cast later reunited for a sequel called “Ghostbusters II” in 1989. In 2021, they once again came together for the movie “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” Murray and the rest of the original crew are now in their 70s and joked about feeling their age while working on the new film. They laughed about how, after finishing a take that required them to walk up a flight of stairs, they would stare at each other and think, “This is it, right? The final one?”
Paul Rudd is making a comeback in the new “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” movie as Gary Grooberson, a teacher who knows all about the original “Ghostbusters” legacy. Despite being a well-known personality with an extensive career that includes movies like “Clueless,” and “AntMan,” Paul Rudd said that he is still in awe when in the presence of the original “Ghostbusters” crew.
Paul Rudd expressed his amazement by saying, “It’s incredible, I mean, even right now, just sitting with all of them. I mean, it’s unreal. I feel like you know, I’ve gotten to know them now over the last years, but it’s still I’m such a fan of every single person on this couch.”
The film also features Mckenna Grace, who plays the granddaughter of Egon Spengler, portrayed by the late Harold Ramis. She keeps his spirit alive in the story that continues the “Ghostbusters” legacy. Mckenna Grace shared a childhood memory of visiting the Sony lot for an audition and taking a moment to pose with the iconic “Ghostbusters” car.
“It’s funny talking about the movie and being a ‘Ghostbuster’ whenever I’m with you guys, because I’m like, am I saying the right thing?” Grace said. “Am I allowed to speak on behalf of a ‘Ghostbuster?'”
“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” is set to release in theaters on March 22, and fans are eagerly waiting to see what exciting new adventures the iconic characters will face in this latest installment.
