Alan Robert Rogowski, known as Ole Anderson, was born on September 22, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, US. He was trained by Dick the Bruiser and Verne Gagne.
Anderson began his wrestling career in 1967, joining the American Wrestling Association (AWA) under the ring name Rock Rogowski. Shortly after, in mid-1968, he started wrestling for Jim Crockett Promotions, a wrestling promotion based in the Carolinas. Anderson became a member of the legendary tag team called the Minnesota Wrecking Crew, alongside his kayfabe brother Gene Anderson, after Lars Anderson left the team in the late 1960s.
Starting in July 1971, Anderson joined the Florida-based Championship Wrestling from Florida promotion and participated in wrestling matches. During his time in Florida, Anderson achieved success by winning the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship and NWA Florida Television Championship.
Between 1972 and 1985, Anderson mainly wrestled for Jim Crockett Promotions and Georgia Championship Wrestling. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, the tag team he was part of, became famous in the Georgia and Mid-Atlantic territories by winning the NWA Georgia Tag Team Championship and the Mid-Atlantic territorial version of the NWA World Tag Team Championship seven times each.
Anderson was a member of the Anderson family, and one of the founding members of a highly influential wrestling stable called The Four Horsemen. Later on, he teamed up with Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, and manager J.J. Dillon to establish the iconic stable known as The Four Horsemen. During their legendary run, The Four Horsemen had intense rivalries with the likes of Dusty Rhodes, The Rock ‘N Roll Express, The Road Warriors, and many others.
Anderson retired in April 1990. His tough and uncompromising style, along with his gruff demeanor, helped establish the group as one of the most renowned stables in the history of sports-entertainment. The group’s unique blend of attitude, style, and success set a benchmark that inspired all the stables that followed.
