Acquired by Apple Original Films in a highly competitive situation, “The Wives” is a murder mystery featuring Jennifer Lawrence. The film, in the vein of “The Real Housewives,” will see Lawrence producing alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for her company, Excellent Cadaver. The project, currently in development, is set to be produced by Tony and Independent Spirit Award nominee Jeremy O. Harris and Josh Godfrey under their bb2 banner. Details on the final plot and shooting schedule are yet to be announced.
Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley, who wrote the play “Circle Jerk” – a Pulitzer Prize finalist, will be the writers of “The Wives.” The film is co-produced by Apple Studios and A24, who previously collaborated on “Causeway,” a 2022 drama featuring Lawrence. They are also partnering on “High and Low,” Spike Lee’s upcoming remake of the Akira Kurosawa film, set to star Denzel Washington. Previous collaborations include “Steve! (Martin) a documentary in 2 pieces” by Morgan Neville and “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” directed by Joel Coen and starring Washington and Frances McDormand.
Additionally, Apple’s upcoming projects feature “Fly Me to the Moon” starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, “The Instigators” with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck directed by Doug Liman, and a Formula 1 feature film starring Brad Pitt directed by Joseph Kosinski.
“Jennifer Lawrence starred in the R-rated comedy film “No Hard Feelings” and also appeared alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie “Don’t Look Up.” Her notable role as the lead in “The Hunger Games” franchise is well known.
As for Harris, he is currently involved in the development of new series for FX, HBO, and Legendary. His documentary feature debut titled “Slave Play: Not a Movie. A Play.” was recently released by HBO.
