Aubrey Plaza’s performance as financial reporter Wow Platinum in the film “Megalopolis” has garnered positive reviews despite the movie’s underwhelming box office performance. In an interview with the New York Times, Plaza described the intense environment on set, stating that every day felt like a survival challenge.
She also mentioned the unpredictable nature of working with director Francis Ford Coppola, who would sometimes give unconventional instructions for her performance, such as asking her to act like a spider in the next take. Plaza revealed that Coppola would also surprise the cast with unexpected activities on set, keeping them on their toes.
Plaza remained in character as Wow Platinum both on and off set, using a mental switch to embody the character’s confidence and composure. She emphasized the importance of improvisation and adaptability on set, stating that it was crucial for survival in such a challenging environment.
Additionally, Plaza shared that her co-star Jon Voight suggested she write her own scenes for the movie, which led to her collaboration with Shia LaBeouf on a scene that made it into the final film. This collaborative approach allowed Plaza to contribute creatively to her character’s portrayal in “Megalopolis.”
“It has been a lengthy journey, but I have ultimately discovered what I have been searching for. It involves Francis guiding me in a manner that is genuinely inspiring, focusing on the process rather than solely on the end result,” she expressed.
