Hugh Jackman almost stopped playing Wolverine after “Logan” for a significant reason.

After the emotionally charged finale of James Mangold’s “Logan,” where we saw Wolverine’s grave marked with an X, it seemed like Hugh Jackman had hung up his claws for good. However, the Oscar nominee is now set to return to the big screen alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” marking his crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is a significant moment for Jackman, who has portrayed the iconic character since 2000. Initially, there were doubts about his return to the role, but after some reflection, including some dance numbers and time in the spotlight, Jackman felt confident enough to step back into the shoes of the beloved hero.

In an interview with People alongside Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman disclosed that he had been contemplating retiring from his role as Wolverine long before the movie “Logan” was even in the works. He admitted that about 10 years ago, he had reached a point where he wasn’t enjoying playing the character, and it was taking a toll on him both physically and emotionally. However, after taking a break and exploring other interests such as dance and stage shows, he found a renewed sense of enjoyment when he returned to the role. It’s unclear whether some of Logan’s regenerative powers rubbed off on Jackman during his long tenure as the character, but Reynolds has described firsthand what it’s like to witness it, and it seems to have left a lasting impression on him.
