Leonardo DiCaprio almost made a titanic mistake.
Director James Cameron, in his new video interview with GQ, shared how the 21-year-old actor almost lost the role of Jack Dawson in 1997’s Titanic, a role that made him internationally famous. After “everyone liked” when he first met Cameron – and “every woman in our whole office,” the director remembers – DiCaprio was asked to do a screen test against Kate Winslet, who played the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater. .
But DiCaprio told Cameron that he did not read for the parts – the salesman for the “big movie” that won 11 Oscars and was the champion of the Hollywood industry for a while, more than ten years until Cameron’s Avatar in 2009.
“I said, ‘You have to learn to hold the center and not have everything. It’s not Richard III. When you can do something that you know Jimmy Stewart did or Gregory Peck did, they’re just there, they don’t have a killer or a lip or anything, then you have to be ready for it ,’ Cameron said.
“You need an actor… Being your actors, you want them to say yes, so you make it interesting. But he didn’t want something easy.
