Gina Gershon Recalls the Shocking Moment on ‘Cocktail’ Set With Tom Cruise.

During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Gina Gershon shared a fascinating behind-the-scenes story from the set of the 1988 film Cocktail, in which she co-starred alongside Tom Cruise. Gershon revealed that during the shooting of her first-ever sex scene, she accidentally kneed Tom Cruise in the nose. Despite the incident, she emphasized that Cruise remained a “gentleman” and was very “protective” of her.

Recalling the filming of the sex scene, Gershon explained that it began with her expressing how ticklish she was. She recounted that during one take, Cruise grabbed her stomach, prompting her to accidentally knee him in the nose. Gershon was initially concerned that she had injured Cruise, but he assured her that it was his fault and remained protective of her throughout the filming. When asked if Cruise took care of her, Gershon replied affirmatively, stating that he was “great” and “totally” looked out for her.

In the movie “Cocktail,” Tom Cruise portrayed Brian Flanagan, a business student who turns to bartending as a means of financial support. The film featured Elisabeth Shue as his romantic interest, and Gina Gershon as a photographer with whom Cruise’s character has a brief relationship.

Despite grossing $171.5 million worldwide, “Cocktail” received unfavorable reviews from critics and was awarded two Razzies for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. In a recent interview, Gershon shared her experience of being advised by former agents that playing a lesbian role would jeopardize her career prospects. However, she ultimately took on the lead role in the 1996 film “Bound,” directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, opposite Jennifer Tilly.

Gina Gershon will be appearing in the upcoming sci-fi film “Borderlands,” alongside Cate Blanchett, Edgar Ramírez, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, and Kevin Hart. The movie, based on a popular video game, follows bounty hunter Lilith as she joins forces with a diverse group to locate a missing girl on her home planet.

Early reviews of “Borderlands,” directed by Eli Roth, have been critical, Clarisse Loughrey describing it as “a total disaster.” The film is said to suffer from miscasting and a confusing script, posing a challenge for both fans of the game and general audiences. “Borderlands” is set to release in theaters on August 9th.
