Damon Wayans Jr. recently expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with his Uncle Marlon, along with Shawn and Keenan, on the upcoming project “Scary Movie 6.” He highlighted the excitement and passion his relatives have for revisiting their iconic horror film parody franchise, noting how refreshing it is to witness their renewed energy for the project.
While Wayans Jr. is uncertain about taking on an acting role in the film, which was announced to be in development in October of this year, he affirmed his eagerness to contribute creatively as a writer. “I told my Uncle Marlon, I was like, ‘I would love to come help write. So regardless if I’m in it or not, I would love to be part of it somehow,” he shared during an interview with TheWrap. He also mentioned his past experiences pitching jokes to the Wayans family, sharing that they have appreciated his comedic input over the years. “They like my joke pitches. They like all my stuff,” said Wayans Jr. He recounted his contributions to the original “Scary Movie” and its sequel, along with the beloved film “White Chicks,” and humorously noted that he frequently pitches jokes without expectation of payment. “So they’ll just always bring me in to make me pitch for free. So I’ll still do it, I’ll do it for free,” he added.
The inaugural “Scary Movie” debuted in 2000 and was a collective effort involving notable figures like Marlon, Shawn, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Aaron Seltzer, Jason Friedberg, Buddy Johnson, and Phil Beauman. Keenan took on the role of director, while Shawn and Marlon showcased their comedic talents as leading characters. The franchise subsequently expanded to include four additional films, though the Wayans brothers stepped away from the series following the second installment. “Scary Movie 6” is currently slated for theatrical release, with filming set to commence in 2025.
Wayans Jr. elaborated on his desire to participate in this next chapter, saying, “What I really love is how excited they are to be doing it. Like, that’s what I love, because that’s when you’re going to get the good stuff. They don’t feel like they’re doing it for monetary reasons or otherwise; they’re doing it because they want this movie to be the best it can be.”
In addition to his aspirations for “Scary Movie 6,” Wayans Jr. is currently appearing in Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking” and is working on “Poppa’s House,” a project featuring his father, the iconic comedian Damon Wayans.
