During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz at 92NY, “We Live in Time” star Andrew Garfield discussed the experience of filming a “very intimate, passionate sex scene” with his co-star Florence Pugh. The actors play the roles of Tobias and Almut in the John Crowley-directed romantic drama, portraying an unlikely pair whose romance spans over a decade following a serendipitous encounter. Garfield emphasized the importance of staying in character as an actor, and it seems that both he and Pugh took their commitment to their roles to another level.
Garfield mentioned that the initial take of his intimate scene with Pugh, whom he characterized as “very self-assured in her body and her sensuality,” took on a life of its own.
“We choreographed the scene to be passionate,” Garfield recounted to Horowitz, as shown in footage shared on social media. “As we got into it, we went a little further than intended because we didn’t hear ‘cut’ and felt comfortable.”
Although the actors were at ease with continuing the scene, Garfield expressed their confusion at the apparent lack of direction from their camera operator and director of photography Stuart Bentley.
Florence Pugh shared that the experience of working on the film created a strong bond among the actors. She expressed her admiration for her co-star, Andrew Garfield, and her hope to collaborate with him on future projects. The film, “We Live in Time,” is scheduled for release in theaters on October 11th.
