Amazon’s Fallout series has been a tremendous success, receiving widespread praise from both audiences and critics. Its outstanding performance has earned the show a staggering 16 Emmy award nominations. The nominations include highly coveted categories such as Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the talented Walton Goggins.
While some of the nominations are for technical categories that may fly under the radar for many viewers, such as “Outstanding Period or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Makeup (Non-Prosthetic)” and “Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour),” Fallout is also recognized in significant areas like special visual effects, stunt performance, and writing for a drama series. These nominations showcase the show’s overall excellence and its status as a frontrunner in the television industry.
The highlight of the nominations has to be the Outstanding Drama Series category. It’s great to see the show recognized. The competition is intense, with nominees like Shogun, 3 Body Problem, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Slow Horses, The Crown, The Gilded Age, and The Morning Show. The general consensus seems to be that Shogun is the frontrunner to win.
As for the lead actor category, Goggins is up against some tough competition. The nominees include Idris Elba for Hijack, Donald Glover for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Gary Oldman for Slow Horses, Hiroyuki Sanada for Shogun, and Dominic West for The Crown. It’s quite an impressive lineup.
It appears that there is some discrepancy regarding the number of categories in which Fallout is nominated. Amazon stated that it received 17 nominations, but the Emmy website indicates 16. Despite the conflicting information, Bethesda expressed their gratitude for the recognition, stating on Twitter that they were “humbled and thankful to have our show be recognized.”
It’s quite astonishing to think back to the time when Uwe Boll physically confronted Lowtax for criticizing his movies excessively. However, the impressive performance of Fallout at the Emmys is not without precedent for a video game adaptation. In 2022, Arcane, an animated series based on League of Legends, secured the distinction of being the first show based on a game to win an Emmy Award. Then, in 2023, The Last of Us scooped up an impressive eight Emmys.
With 16 nominations under its belt, even if Fallout doesn’t clinch the top awards, it seems likely that its streak might continue into 2024. The 2024 Emmy Awards are set to air on September 15th.
