Just a few days before celebrating her 21st anniversary as the iconic character Sam McCall on General Hospital, Kelly Monaco has officially concluded her time portraying the beloved Port Charles heroine.
In a heartfelt gesture, Kelly’s mother, Carmina Monaco, took to Twitter on the evening of September 27, 2024, to express her profound gratitude to her daughter’s dedicated fan base for their unwavering support over the years.
“I want to take this moment to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Kelly’s remarkable fans and convey my deepest thanks for the consistent love, loyalty, and support you’ve demonstrated throughout her tenure on General Hospital,” Carmina expressed. “As she closes the door of her dressing room for the final time, just four days before the anniversary of her debut episode on October 1, 2003, this moment is undeniably challenging. However, the knowledge that she has been backed by such an incredible and devoted fan community has provided her with immense strength. You’ve stood by her through every twist and turn, celebrating her triumphs and offering solace during the difficult times. Your love and unwavering dedication have been beyond words, not only for Kelly but for all of us who deeply care for her. Thank you for being there, for believing in her, and for reminding her of the profound impact she has made. We will forever be grateful for your steadfast support through it all.”
Kelly Monaco, who plays Sam on General Hospital, is set to leave the show. Monaco started her soap career on ABC daytime playing Livvie Locke on the GH spinoff Port Charles before taking on the role of Sam. She also gained fame by winning the first Mirror Ball Trophy on Dancing with the Stars. Fans were shocked when news of Monaco’s departure and the plan to kill off Sam was announced in August. Sam’s character had become a fan favorite, especially after her relationship with Jason Morgan and later with Dante Falconeri. There’s speculation about how Sam will exit the show, with some guessing that she might drown while searching for a gun in the river. Monaco has finished taping her last scenes, but her final airdate has not been announced yet. General Hospital airs new episodes on weekdays on ABC and Hulu.
