According to the ancient legends of Aurea, the first king of the realm once led a brave but ultimately ill-fated attack on a terrifying dragon that had taken up residence within his kingdom. Despite the king’s best efforts and the courage of his men, the dragon proved to be too powerful a foe. In the end, every last one of the king’s soldiers was slain, leaving the monarch alone and vulnerable before the fearsome beast. With no one left to defend him, the king had no choice but to face the dragon’s wrath, praying for a miracle that would spare his life.
Several centuries after the events that led to the fall of Bayford, Elodie, the daughter of Lord Bayford, receives a proposal from Queen Isabelle of Aurea to marry Prince Henry. Despite her initial reluctance, Elodie eventually accepts the offer on her father’s advice, hoping to help the impoverished people of Bayford.
Elodie and her family set sail to Aurea to meet the prince and the queen. The initial meeting between Elodie and Henry seems to lack any interest from either side, but they soon discover that they share a common love for travel. As they spend more time together, they begin to bond and develop a deeper understanding of each other.
However, Elodie’s stepmother, Lady Bayford, is not convinced of the queen’s intentions and seeks to establish a familial bond with her. But her attempts are rebuffed by Queen Isabelle, which makes Lady Bayford even more suspicious. She starts to feel like something is not right and urges Elodie to end the engagement, but her pleas fall on deaf ears as Elodie is determined to fulfill her promise to help her people.
Elodie and Henry’s wedding celebrations take them to the mountains, where they participate in a mysterious ancient ritual. The queen, adorned in priestess attire, presides over the ceremony and explains the history of the pact between the first king and the dragon. According to the legend, the king had to offer his three daughters as a sacrifice to the dragon to ensure peace in the kingdom.
As part of the ritual, Henry and Elodie’s hands are cut and held together, symbolizing their union. However, things take a strange turn when Henry insists on carrying Elodie across a narrow path over the dragon’s lair. The path is perilous, and one wrong move could mean falling into the chasm below.
Despite the danger, Henry manages to carry Elodie safely across the path. However, instead of embracing his wife, he unexpectedly throws her into the chasm. The shocking turn of events leaves the guests stunned and confused as they try to come to grips with what just happened.
After Elodie fell into the dragon’s lair, she gradually regained consciousness and realized that she was the dragon’s intended sacrifice. Feeling frightened and desperate to escape, Elodie began to look for any possible way out of the lair. Suddenly, the dragon appeared before her, demanding to know her name and taunting her with its fiery breath. In a panic, Elodie tried to run away, but the dragon chased her down and burned her leg with its scorching flames.
Despite the excruciating pain, Elodie managed to escape the dragon’s grasp and stumbled upon an illuminated cave filled with glowing slugs. Recognizing that the slugs could provide her with much-needed light, Elodie collected as many as she could and continued her search for an escape route.
However, her respite was short-lived, as the dragon soon caught up to her again. With no other options, Elodie fled as quickly as possible, eventually reaching a chamber with a note scribbled in blood that read “Safe Here She Cannot Reach”, along with the names of the dragon’s past victims and a map carved into the wall.
Exhausted and terrified, Elodie collapsed and fell into a deep sleep. As she rested, the glowing slugs she had collected seemed to work some sort of magic, slowly healing the burn on her leg as she slept soundly.
Elodie, with the map in hand, proceeds to climb the treacherous mountain path in search of the lost royal sacrifices. However, to her dismay, the map leads her to a dead end that ends in a high vertical drop on the side of the mountain. As she looks around, she discovers the remains of dead dragon hatchlings scattered around the area, indicating the reason for the royal sacrifices.
Suddenly, a rescue party led by Lord Bayford arrives at the scene, but they are met with an unexpected and deadly attack by the fierce dragon. Despite their efforts, the rescue party is unable to fend off the dragon, and they are quickly overpowered, leaving Elodie alone to face the perilous situation.
Elodie seizes the opportunity to climb a rope to escape the mountain while the dragon is distracted by the rescue party. She then swiftly takes one of the rescue party’s horses and hides under a nearby rock as the dragon breathes fire and burns the surrounding area in an attempt to find her. Thankfully, Elodie manages to evade the dragon’s wrath and escape to safety.
As the flames of the conflagration rise high into the sky, Isabelle realizes that something has gone wrong with Elodie’s sacrifice. In a desperate attempt to appease the dragon and prevent it from attacking their village, Isabelle takes matters into her own hands and decides to kidnap Elodie’s younger sister, Floria, as a replacement.
Upon learning of this treacherous act, Elodie is filled with rage and despair. Despite the danger, she sets out to rescue her beloved sister from Isabelle’s clutches. When she arrives at the mountain, however, she is met by the fearsome dragon, who has spared Floria’s life as a cruel form of bait.
Even though her heart is pounding with fear, Elodie knows that she must be brave and face the dragon if she hopes to save her sister and put an end to the madness once and for all.
Elodie finds herself in a difficult situation as she tries to rescue her sister Floria from the dragon’s lair. She quickly devises a plan to create a diversion to distract the dragon and allow her to reach Floria. Instructing her sister to hide, Elodie fearlessly confronts the dragon and tries to convince her that they have both been deceived by the Aureans.
Elodie explains that the Aureans had mingled the blood of the brides and the Aurean royals by joining their cut hands at the wedding. This had deceived the dragon into believing that the sacrificed princesses were Aurean royalty. However, the dragon refuses to believe Elodie’s words and insists that the first king’s assault was unprovoked.
With the dragon’s refusal to believe her, Elodie finds herself in a dangerous situation as the dragon attacks her. However, using her quick thinking, Elodie tricks the dragon into burning herself. With the dragon now at her mercy, Elodie decides to heal both of them with the glowing slugs.
Elodie’s bravery and quick thinking not only saved her sister but also brought an end to the cycle of violence between the humans and the dragons.
In the midst of a beautiful wedding ceremony at the palace, Elodie and the dragon suddenly burst in, causing a commotion and drawing everyone’s attention. They had uncovered a plot by the Aureans to overthrow the kingdom, and this was their chance to expose the treachery.
Elodie quickly took charge, advising the new bride and her family to flee the palace before it was too late. The dragon, meanwhile, breathed fire and burned the palace down, taking out all the Aurean royals and nobles who were present.
After the dust had settled, Elodie, Floria, and Lady Bayford set sail back home, loaded with supplies and accompanied by the dragon. They had successfully thwarted the Aureans’ plan to take over the kingdom, but the journey was not over yet. As they sailed on, they couldn’t help but wonder what other adventures lay ahead of them.
