Over the weekend, Kim Kardashian and Cooper Koch, known for his role in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, visited the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County. The purpose of their visit was to meet with the convicted murderers, Erik and Lyle Menendez, along with other inmates. It was reported that alongside Kim Kardashian, her sister Khloe Kardashian, her mother Kris Jenner, and film producer Scott Budnick, Cooper Koch, who portrays Erik Menendez in the Netflix series, also joined the visit.
Following this visit, Erik Menendez’s wife, Tammi, took to social media to express her dissatisfaction with Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Monsters, labeling it as “dishonest” and “disheartening slander.”
During their visit, Kardashian, a vocal advocate for criminal justice reform, engaged in discussions with the inmates about prison reform. She also highlighted the Greenspace project, which aims to promote rehabilitation by enhancing prison yards, a project the Menendez brothers have been involved in.
The Menendez brothers are currently serving life sentences for the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Kitty. They were arrested for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder outside their home in March 1990 and were sentenced in 1996. Recently, new evidence has emerged that could potentially lead to their release.
The Netflix series Monsters features Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as José and Kitty Menendez, with Koch and Nicholas Chavez portraying the Menendez brothers.
In response to the series, Erik Menendez, through a statement posted on X/Twitter by his wife Tammi, expressed his disappointment in the portrayal of himself and his brother Lyle. He believes that the depiction of their characters in the show is rooted in lies and is a deliberate attempt to distort the truth. Erik Menendez also criticized the portrayal of the tragedies surrounding their crime, stating that the show’s narrative undermines the progress made in shedding light on childhood trauma. He emphasized the importance of letting the truth stand as it is and highlighted the devastating impact of violence against children. Menendez expressed gratitude to those who have supported him during this challenging time.
