Will Smith has confirmed that the fourth movie in the Bad Boys franchise will happen, almost a year after he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars.
The couple’s feud last March sparked speculation about Smith’s future as a box office favorite. This casts doubt on the status of Bad Boys 4, which Sony has already announced that it is developing.
However, it will continue and comes after Smith was recently seen at the helm of Apple’s launch.
Although the film had a short run and was overlooked at this year’s Oscars, the small public reaction to its release may reassure other film companies that Smith’s image will be gradually changed. .
“It was at that time”
A fourth Bad Boys movie was announced by Smith with an Instagram video, which saw him reunite with Lawrence and launch the “bad boys for life” tagline. The video follows Smith as he drives to Lawrence’s house, telling his followers, “Yo, I got a notification, you better stop scrolling.”
The opening bars of Shake Ya Tailfeather by Nelly, P Diddy and Murphy Lee, from the 2003 Bad Boys II soundtrack, can be heard in the background.
Arriving at Lawrence’s door, the duo announced that the fourth film was in progress. “It’s that time!” yells Laurent. The pair are seen joking that they shouldn’t have wasted the name Bad Boys For Life in the third film, as they could have kept it as a pun to be used in the fourth film.
The current untitled sequel will be produced by the same duo that made the movie Abandoned Batgirl. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallh have already directed the previous film in the franchise – Bad Boys For Life 2020.
The event was one of the last successful blockbusters before the Covid pandemic, taking $426m (£346m) at the box office.
Last summer, Lawrence downplayed the suggestion that another quarterback might be canceled. “We have at least one more,” he told Ebony. Reflecting on the franchise as a whole, he said: “It’s great. For us, we come together and show that we can deliver, that we can bring people to the box office – to the stars Two blacks, two stars of a sitcom. , can make money at the box office [is big].”
The original Bad Boys film grossed $141m (£114m) worldwide in 1995, while the 2003 sequel Bad Boys II grossed $273m (£222m). The third film, Bad Boys For Life, surpassed the previous two entries tied at the box office – although some of that can be attributed to sales and prices of movie tickets over the next 17 years.
