Ana De Armas takes center stage in the first trailer for Ballerina, a spinoff of the popular John Wick franchise starring Keanu Reeves. De Armas portrays a former ballerina who becomes an assassin in the film, officially titled From The World of John Wick: Ballerina. The movie has faced some delays, originally filming in 2022 with an intended release date of June 2024. However, in February, Lionsgate pushed the release to June 6, 2025, to give John Wick director Chad Stahelski the opportunity to enhance the action sequences. Stahelski collaborated with Ballerina director Len Wiseman to create new and improved action scenes for the film, which were shot this year.
The “John Wick” franchise is a cornerstone for Lionsgate and is considered one of its most pivotal series. Since its inception in 2014, the franchise has featured Keanu Reeves in four films. Reeves also makes a cameo appearance in “Ballerina,” a film that is set between the events of the third and fourth “John Wick” movies.
Notable actors in the franchise include Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane.
The 2023 release, “John Wick: Chapter 4,” has become the highest-grossing film in the franchise, raking in $440 million worldwide. There is also potential for a fifth installment in the “John Wick” series. The script for the latest movie is penned by Shay Hatten, who also wrote “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.”
