A24 Snags Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd Comedy ‘Friendship’ Post-TIFF Debut.

A24 has acquired the rights to “Friendship,” a comedy featuring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd. The movie made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival as part of the Midnight Madness program. Directed by Andrew DeYoung in his feature debut, the film channels the cringe comedy of “I Think You Should Leave,” with Robinson playing a suburban dad who obsessively pursues a bond with his charming neighbor, played by Rudd. Other cast members include Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, and Billy Bryk.

This marks Robinson’s first starring role in a movie, while Rudd is known for his roles in comedies such as “Anchorman,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Clueless,” and “I Love You, Man.” “Friendship” has been praised by critics, with Nick Schager of the Daily Beast calling it the “funniest film of the year.”

In addition to “Friendship,” A24 has also acquired “The Brutalist,” a historical epic directed by Brady Corbet and starring Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones, as well as Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer,” a romantic drama with Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.

The film’s director, Andrew DeYoung, is represented by Dan McManus and Rise Management.
