After receiving the Best Director award at the Venice Film Festival, “The Brutalist” has been acquired by A24 in a competitive deal for U.S. distribution rights. The film, a three-and-a-half-hour drama, stars Adrien Brody as a Hungarian-born Jewish architect who moves to America in 1947. The storyline revolves around his assimilation and the subsequent impact on his life.
Receiving a positive review, “The Brutalist” is recognized for its portrayal of American ambition and the immigrant experience. Director Brady Corbet, along with co-writer Mona Fasvold, received the Silver Lion award for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival.
“The Brutalist” was shot in VistaVision and presented in 70mm at both the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals, and is scheduled to be featured at the New York Film Festival. The film is produced by a collaborative effort between several entities including Brookstreet U.K., Andrew Lauren Productions, and other financiers. CAA Media Finance facilitated the acquisition deal, while international rights were acquired by Focus Features through negotiations with Protagonist Pictures.
