The core cast members from The Addams Family recently reunited at the Los Angeles Comic Con after more than 30 years since they first brought the gothic family to the big screen. The reunion included Christina Ricci (Wednesday), Anjelicia Huston (Morticia), Christopher Lloyd (Uncle Fester), Jimmy Workman (Pugsley), and Carel Struycken (Lurch). However, the late Raul Julia, who portrayed Gomez, was noticeably absent. Julia passed away less than a year after the release of Addams Family Values in 1993. Anjelica Huston fondly remembered Julia as “the perfect gentleman” who always brought energy and entertainment to the set with his dedication and love for singing and dancing. Julia, known for his stage work with four Tony nominations, left a lasting impact on the Addams Family cast.
The Addams Family, originally based on Charles Addams’ comics, achieved great success upon its release, grossing over $100 million domestically and ranking as one of the highest-grossing movies of 1991. Although the sequel didn’t perform as well, the franchise has experienced a resurgence in popularity. Netflix’s Wednesday series has become one of the streaming platform’s biggest hits, and there have been two successful animated features.
Additionally, the iconic Addams Family pinball game remains the best-selling of all time. For die-hard fans and those interested in horror-themed road trips, I recommend visiting the “Addams Family house” in Westfield, New Jersey. This house served as the inspiration for the Addams Family’s home and holds historical significance as the town that Charles Addams drew inspiration from.
