In the latest episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star, love takes center stage as Tommy (Gina Torres) proposes to Pastor Trevor (D.B. Woodside). However, their joy is overshadowed by the presence of Trevor’s ex-wife, who insists on meeting and approving any woman who will be a stepmother to their daughter. Despite Tommy’s willingness to comply, she draws the line at allowing Trevor’s ex to pass judgment on her own twin daughters.
Interestingly, the introduction of Trevor’s ex-wife was originally planned to happen even earlier in the series. According to Lone Star co-showrunner Rashad Raisani, the decision to include Trevor’s ex-wife stemmed from a desire to explore the unique dynamics of Trevor’s character, particularly his status as a divorced pastor who left his previous town. Raisani also noted the complexity of their daughter, Melody, describing her as a character with both sweetness and deviousness.
Raisani was particularly excited about writing the proposal scene, emphasizing the wonderful chemistry between Torres and Woodside, who have previously worked together on other shows. He aimed to capture the charm of the moment while also infusing it with a sense of awkwardness, ensuring that it wasn’t too easy for the characters.
The impending ex-wife storyline in 9-1-1: Lone Star is expected to present both sides of the situation. Raisani, a character in the show, reflects on the complexities involved, considering the well-being of the child and the desire for independence. The relatable nature of the situation makes it a universal and human storyline. 9-1-1: Lone Star’s fifth and final season airs on Fox on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
