Denzel Washington is incredibly proud of his son Malcolm Washington, who is making his directorial debut with the Netflix film, “The Piano Lesson”. Denzel, a two-time Oscar winner, is not only supporting his son’s endeavor but is also a producer on the film. The movie, an adaptation of August Wilson’s play, made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
In an interview at the event, Denzel expressed his pride in being a part of bringing August Wilson’s work to the screen and his excitement about working with his son on this project. The entire Washington family is involved in the film; Malcolm’s older brother John David Washington stars in it, and his sister Katia Washington produced alongside their father. The movie is also dedicated to their mother, Pauletta.
“The Piano Lesson” is a deeply personal project for Malcolm, and the people involved in its making are the closest to him. The film tells the story of a family struggle over a cherished piano, a tale that is close to Malcolm’s heart, with a stellar cast including Erykah Badu, Skylar Aleece Smith, Jerrika Hinton, Gail Bean, and Corey Hawkins. The music for the film is composed by the two-time Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat.
The movie is set to be released in select theaters on Nov. 8, followed by its Netflix release on Nov. 22. With its talented cast and deeply personal story, “The Piano Lesson” is a film that promises to be a must-see for audiences.
