The Heartbreaking Moment Christopher Reeve’s Son Recalls in New Documentary ‘Super/Man’.

The documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and is set to hit theaters in September. The film chronicles the real-life story of actor Christopher Reeve, known for his portrayal of Superman, and his journey of tragedy and triumph. After a devastating equestrian accident in 1995 left him paralyzed, Reeve and his family displayed unwavering strength and resilience.

The documentary includes intimate interviews with Reeve’s three children and late wife, as well as recollections from friends such as Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Jeff Daniels, and Glenn Close. The children of Reeve attended a screening of the film, Super/Man, at the Ray Theatre in Park City, Utah, during Sundance. In the documentary, they provide candid and emotional interviews about their family’s life, previously led by their heroic father and caregiver mother.

Matthew, 44, mentioned during a Q+A session that the upcoming October would mark the 20th anniversary of his father’s passing, explaining why it felt like the right time to make the film. He also shared their decision to entrust their family’s story to filmmakers Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui. Jane Seymour, a close friend and co-star of Reeve, described him as an amazing person and praised his activism.

The documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is set to debut in theaters on Sept. 21 and 25.
