Blake Lively Reveals Ryan Reynolds’ Secret Role in ‘It Ends With Us’

In an exclusive interview with E! News at the New York City premiere on Aug. 6, Blake Lively revealed that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, contributed to the dialogue of the film “It Ends With Us.” Lively explained that the iconic rooftop scene in the film was actually written by Reynolds himself. She also mentioned that the couple often collaborates on each other’s projects, with Reynolds even making a cameo appearance in Lively’s recent film. The rooftop scene, which features flirty banter between the main characters, was a particularly challenging part for the screenwriter, Christy Hall, as it had to stay true to the novel written by Colleen Hoover.

I am very proud of my work, and I do feel like the beats that needed to be honored in that scene are preserved and they’re there,” adds Hall. “Again, Colleen did it best. She did it first and it’s from her. I do think that that scene is a really beautiful reflection of what she penned from the beginning.”

Hall says she wasn’t aware Reynolds had contributed to the dialogue used in the final version of the sequence.

“There were a couple of little things that I thought had been improvised. Like when he says, ‘Pretty please with a cherry on top,’ and she talks about the maraschino cherries. When I saw a cut I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cute. That must have been a cute improvised thing.’ So if I’m being told that Ryan wrote that, then great, how wonderful.”

“There were a few little flourishes that I did not write, but I assumed that they had been improvised on set. But, again, like I said, the moments that I felt like needed to be honored are there. So I recognize the scene and I’m proud of the scene. And if those flourishes came from Ryan, I think that’s wonderful.”

In a recent interview, actor Reid Scott, who stars in the movie “It Ends With Us,” shared an interesting behind-the-scenes moment. According to Scott, there was a scene in the movie that was improvised, involving his co-stars Blake Lively and Brandon Sklenar. The improvised moment occurred when Sklenar’s character, Atlas, asks Lively’s character what song she would want played at her funeral, to which she responds with Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open.” Scott found this moment particularly hilarious and speculated that it might have been improvised by Ryan Reynolds himself, who is also known for his wit. Scott mentioned that the improvised scene added much-needed levity and humor to the movie, making it a standout moment for him. “It Ends With Us” is set to hit theaters on August 9th.
